The Substance Abuse and Brain Injury (SUBI) project was initiated to study the problem of Substance Abuse and Brain Injury. This website is intended to provide information for Healthcare Providers, persons with an Acquired Brain Injury, and the General Public. Site registration is open.   • 25 to 30% of persons sustaining an ABI are intoxicated at the time of injury?
  • More than half of adults and adolescents admitted to ABI (Acquired Brain Injury) rehabilitation programs have a history of substance use?
  • 20% of people who do not have a substance use problem before the injury become vulnerable to substance use after an injury?
  • Use seems to increase during the post-acute period of a brain injury?
  • Using substances greatly increases the chances of a second injury?
